Aregbesola Rejected Adeleke’s Nomination

Rasaq Salinsile, the All Progressives Congress faction leader in Osun state, appointed by Governor Ademola Adeleke, resigned for “personal reasons”.

To prevent former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, who ran on the APC platform, from winning a second term in the 16 July 2022 gubernatorial election, Salinsile led the Osun APC faction which was loyal to former Governor Rauf Aregbesola. This was at the height of the internal party strife that decimated the APC.

On Thursday of last week, Adeleke appointed Salinsile as chair of the education services committee.

Salinsile did not outright turn down the position once his name was revealed, but it was later revealed that he had contacted the governor and said no.

According to The Punch, Salinsile was conspicuously absent from Wednesday’s swearing-in ceremony of board chairmen, and in a later list released by the government, Tope Mustapha Adeyemi’s name took Salinsile’s place as TESCOM chairman.

Salinsile said he declined the appointment for personal reasons when he was contacted by telephone on Thursday.
