Adidas respond to claims they approve Mason Greenwood’s return to the Man Utd squad.

Sportswear giant Adidas has strongly denied reports that it has held discussions with Manchester United over Mason Greenwood’s future.

The young striker has been out of action for United since January 2022 when he was accused of rape, controlling and coercive behavior and assault. The charges were dropped in February, but United decided to suspend the England international while his conduct is investigated by its own internal investigation.

The Sun recently reported on Friday that the Red Devils have opened talks with Adidas to explore the possibility of bringing Greenwood back into the squad.

The paper even called the discussions “positive”. Adidas, which has been United’s shirt sponsor since signing a 10-year deal in 2015, denied any such dialogue with the club.

An adidas spokesperson explained: “Following inaccurate and speculative media coverage, it is important for us to clarify that adidas have not held any discussions with Manchester United regarding any member of their playing squad. We play no role in any decisions made regarding any member of the club’s squad or staff. .”

Mason Greenwood’s absence from the Manchester United squad has been noticeable and fans have been eagerly awaiting his return. His last appearance for the 20-time English champions was on 22 January 2022 in a 1-0 Premier League win against the Hammers.

While United playmaker Erik ten Hag recently revealed that he has shared his views on Greenwood’s future with the club, he revealed that the final decision will be made by the club. He said: “It’s the club’s decision and of course I shared my opinion, but it’s the club’s decision and we all have to accept it.”
