Chelsea beat Fulham to lift the Premier League Summer Series trophy in the US, courtesy of goals from Thiago Silva and Christopher Nkunku. The Blues swept through the pre-season competition by winning two of their three matches.
Chelsea broke the deadlock through veteran Thiago Silva after a rather faltering 20-minute pre-season opener. From a corner, the defender climbed to the near post to send a header past Bernd Leno and into the back of the net.
Afterwards, the Blues looked much more likely to score their second goal of the game, Ben Chilwell forcing the Fulham goalkeeper into a brilliant save with a vicious shot from the left side of the box.
Enzo Fernandez will miss a golden opportunity for the 2-0 in the 35th minute. After a dazzling counter-attack orchestrated by Raheem Sterling, Christopher Nkunku received the ball and scored Fernandez beautifully for the opener. His next effort, on the other hand, was soft and aimed squarely at Leno.
Chelsea’s well deserved second goal came five minutes later, courtesy of Christopher Nkunku. After Carney Chukwuemeka pushed Leno into a fine save, the striker was the first to react.
Half-time substitutions have generally derailed the Blues’ first-half momentum, but new signing Nicolas Jackson has caused some difficulty with his dynamic behind.
In the 75th minute, Fulham would create the only meaningful chance of the second half. Bobby Decordova-Reid had the chance, but his volley was brilliantly saved by Lucas Bergstrom.
As expected, Chelsea’s win over Fulham drew reactions on Facebook, as it was shared by Chelsea on their official page.
