Man City star Rico Lewis has signed a new five-year contract following an impressive Treble-winning season last season.
Rico Lewis has signed a new five-year contract with Manchester City to keep him at the Etihad until 2028.
The City Academy graduate played a key role in Pep Guardiola’s Treble-winning side last season, making 23 appearances in a successful year that saw them win the Premier League, FA Cup, and, for the first season in the club’s history, League One.
The 18-year-old’s current contract expires next summer, but the striker has extended his time at the club by putting his new contract in writing.
Al-Nassr loved Clement Lenglet
Barcelona enters the final stages of the summer transfer window with their cards already marked. Two players who were not in their plans – Clement Lenglet and Sergiño Dest – have yet to leave, while a sale is accepted in attacking positions. The first to leave could be Lenglet. A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday to discuss the sale with Saudi Al-Nassr after the European option fell through.
Lenglet knows he won’t be with Barça. The club hasn’t signed him and they won’t unless absolutely necessary. The player returned during the season already aware of the club’s intentions and his aim was to continue at Tottenham. To avoid unexpected events, the move to the Premier League failed because the English team did not want to pay the transfer fee if they had to pay the player’s salary.
Meanwhile, Al-Nassr stopped pushing Lenglet in hopes of convincing the player. Barça prioritizes that approach because there is money to be made, although they are also looking for other ways of thinking. It remains to be seen whether the Frenchman will perform now that so many stars have entered the Saudi Arabian competition.
A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday in which the situation will be clarified and nothing will be taken away. Barça wants to handle his departure well and not wait until the last day of the market to transfer him. Many clubs will be interested in bringing him to Europe and taking a year off his salary.
