According to The Athletic, Chelsea have agreed a fee of around £25m with Brighton & Hove Albion to sign Spain goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
The 25-year-old stopper will soon have a doctor to confirm his move to Stamford Bridge.
The number one spot is currently held by Kepa Arrizabalaga, but Sanchez will be in competition with him for the place in goal.
Edouard Mendy’s move to Al Ahli in the Saudi Pro League last month sent the London club looking for a new goalkeeper, and they found one.
Sanchez will once again be working with former Brighton goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts. The pair have previously teamed up with the Seagulls. Roberts hopes he can restore Sanchez’s form.
Following the appointment of manager Roberto De Zerbi in March, Sanchez lost his starting job to Jason Steele.
Sanchez was left out of Brighton’s pre-season tour of the United States, casting doubt on his future with the club.
Brighton’s goalkeeping team has been working hard to prepare for Sanchez’s departure. This summer, the Seagulls signed Dutchman Bart Verbruggen from Anderlecht.
Sanchez is Chelsea’s sixth summer addition, joining Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Lesley Ugochukwu and Angelo Gabriel. AS Monaco’s Axel Disasi is also on the way.
However, talks between Chelsea and Brighton over the possible transfer of midfielder Moises Caicedo are still ongoing.
Brighton have turned down numerous offers for the midfielder because they want £100m, but Chelsea aren’t willing to go that high.
Negotiations for the Ecuadorian will continue, even if Chelsea are replacing Leeds United’s Tyler Adams. The Blues are also interested in Ajax’s Edson Alvarez.
Chelsea’s second most important requirement, following the acquisition of a new goalkeeper, is a defensive midfielder. They’ve needed reinforcements in this location for years.
